Day 1: Cape Town – Riebeek Kasteel (D)
A 1.5-hour drive from Cape Town brings you to the Riebeek Katseel region and one of the largest farms in the Western Cape. Historically a wheat and sheep farm, Bartholomeus Klip is combined with thousands of hectares of private nature reserve, making it a special place where conservation co-exists with farming. Be a part of the peaceful life of rural South Africa with its clean, crisp air and star-filled night skies.

Bartholomeus Klip is surrounded by the famous winelands of the Western Cape, reflected in the wine list, and recommendations are given on request. The exceptional wine on offer is complemented by the delicious food made in the French tradition but with an additional local flavour.

For the next two evenings you will stay in a stylishly restored Victorian farmhouse with fine fabrics and family antiques. Rose-filled gardens and ancient oaks surround the house, with benches tucked away in quiet places perfect for absorbing the peace and relaxed atmosphere. Nearby, the deck of the salt-water swimming pool is ideal for sunbathing or sundowners, and the boathouse, where the wonderful brunches are served, has a spectacular view over the dam.

Day 2: Riebeek Kasteel (BD)
Today, try as many activities as possible so as not to miss out on the unforgettable experiences that Bartholomeus Klip has to offer. Activities include game viewing in 4x4 vehicles to see the unique ‘fynbos’ and other plant species of the Cape Floral Kingdom. The larger, more obvious game to be spotted in the reserve includes eland, wildebeest, springbok, baboon, leopard, jackal and Cape mountain zebra. The nature reserve has been declared a national heritage site because the world’s rarest reptile, the geometric tortoise, inhabits the area. Visit the buffalo breeding project, which introduced the first African buffalo to be seen in the Western Cape for 300 years.

Other activities to indulge in are mountain biking or sailing on the dam. The reserve in springtime has been referred to as “flower heaven”, as sheets of colour and a myriad bulbs, orchids and daisies bloom. More than 160 bird species have been identified at Bartholomeus Klip, among them the endangered blue crane and the African fish eagle, as well as the ostrich, frequently seen in the reserve.

Day 3: Riebeek Kasteel – Cape Town (B)
After a lazy breakfast at the boathouse, with a decadently laden table, drink in your final view of the mountains with coffee in hand. Your transport will be ready at 11h00 to take you back to Cape Town to continue with your holiday.
